Morton College's Dixon invited to NBA G League session

Morton College basketball standout Nick Dixon has been invited to participate in the 2018 NBA GLPI Invited Player Session in Chicago on Sunday, August 12, according to a report by’s Jake Winderman.

Dixon, a two-time NJCAA All-American at Morton College and program’s second all-time leading scorer, is the first player in program history selected to participate in the NBA’s G League player session.

This event will challenge NBA G League hopefuls, via full-court games, to showcase their skills for NBA G League player personnel, executives, coaches and industry scouts with the hopes of securing an NBA Training Camp invite or gaining eligibility for the NBA G League Draft in October.

In June, Dixon had a pre-NBA draft workout with the Chicago Bulls.

The 6-2 guard scored 1,622 in his two seasons at Morton College from 2013 to 2015. He was the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference’s MVP both seasons, averaging 25.2 points per game as a freshman and 27.2 ppg as a sophomore.

Dixon received a scholarship to NCAA Division I Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he left as the program’s 10th all-time leading scorer with 1,262 points in just two seasons. He averaged 18.8 ppg as a junior and 20.6 ppg as a senior. He was an all-Western Athletic Conference Second Team as a junior and all-WAC First Team as a senior.

Dixon is the first player since Wichita State’s Cleanthony Early to score 1,000 points at both the NJCAA and NCAA Division I levels.

Dixon is one of three WAC players to receive an invitation. New Mexico State’s Jemerrio Jones and Zach Lofton also were extended invites.
