Procedures & Guidelines

Revised: August 22, 2016

I. Starting Date

A. Same as NJCAA guidelines.

II. Number of Contests

A. Same as NJCAA guidelines (number of play dates)

III. Procedures and Special Items

A. A meeting of the volleyball coaches will take place (normally the first Monday night) at 7:00 p.m., immediately after the Region IV finals.

B. Starting time for all Illinois Skyway dual matches will be no earlier than 4:30 p.m. with a recommended/preferred starting time of 6 p.m.

C. Conference dual matches shall be a best 3 out of 5. Rally scoring to 25 points will be used in each of the first four sets. Game 5, if needed, will be to 15 points.

D. Warm ups will be as per NCAA rules. Courts must be available for warm up, preferably one hour prior to match time but at least twenty (20) minutes prior to match time.

E. Traveling teams should arrive a minimum of twenty (20) minutes before scheduled match time but no later than the starting time of the event. With no prior notification, if one team is not ready to play, fifteen (15) minutes after the scheduled starting time, that team will forfeit the first set. The second set will be forfeited ten (10) minutes after that, and the third set ten (10) minutes after the second set forfeit. Extenuating circumstances such as a transportation breakdown with a telephone notification will be considered a legitimate reason for non-forfeiture. The athletic directors of the two schools involved will decide on rescheduling due to extenuating circumstances, in consultation with the sports chair. The contract should state who pays the officials on forfeits, no-shows or after extenuating circumstances.

F. It is strongly preferred that there be two USAV officials at every match. It is required that there be at least one USAV certified official at every ISCC match. If there is only one, that official will be "up."

G. Line judges will be required in conference play. The host college will furnish competent, trained, appropriately dressed (ISCC vests) line judges for conference dual matches and the tournament, as well as a knowledgeable official scorer, Libero tracker and scoreboard operator. Ball runners would also be a valuable staffing addition at the matches.

H. NCAA rules will be used for ISCC play.

I. Official NJCAA logo ball (Tachikara-navy/royal/white, with silver lettering), is to be used in all conference matches. Ball pressure per specs, 4 – 6 lbs. Host school to provide preferably a hamper-full of practice volleyballs but at least a minimum of 10 - 15 volleyballs for visiting team use

IV. Conference Criteria

A. The ISCC championship will be determined by the single round-robin dual match records. The round robin schedule changes every two years with the last round games on the schedule moving to the first round and sites being reversed.

V. All Conference Awards

A. Each school must have a coach/knowledgeable representative present in order to nominate and vote. At the annual post-season coaches meeting, typically the Monday night after the Region IV Finals at TBA, 7 pm, each coach shall nominate the player(s) from their team who he/she feels deserve all-conference consideration. A coach cannot vote for players from his/her own team. Per past practice, coaches have agreed to nominate and take an open vote on consensus or unanimous selections, before discussion takes place on the remainder of the nominees in order to speed-up the selection process. Only conference stats, from the dual matches and tournament, can be used or considered in selecting the All-Conference team.

B. The top thirteen (13) vote recipients will constitute the All Conference Team. All thirteen (13) players will receive Illinois Skyway gold medallions. An honorary All Conference second team of up to thirteen (13) additional players, made up of those receiving votes or nominated for consideration but not selected, may be recognized for publicity and recognition purposes. There are Illinois Skyway certificate awards for both first and second team players. The breakdown of awards will be as follows according to place finish in the conference:

First Team Second Team
1 – 4 5 - 1 1 – 2 5 - 2
2 – 2 6 – 1 2 – 2 6 - 1
3 – 2 7 – 1 3 – 2 7 - 1
4 – 1 8 – 1 4 – 2 8 - 1

C. Illinois Skyway Conference Player of the Year. Coaches will nominate those First Team All Conference recipients that they feel deserve consideration as Player of the Year. Coaches may not vote for their own player and there will be no Co-Players of the Year. All Coaches are expected to cast a definitive open vote, (e.g. verbal or show of hands). In the event of a tie, coaches will continue to vote until one player is chosen (see “F” below).

D. A plaque, which includes an Illinois Skyway gold medallion, will be awarded to the Player of the Year, in addition to an All Conference medallion.

E. The Coach of the Year will be nominated and selected by the coaches using the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference guidelines. There will be no Co-Coaches of the Year (see “F” below). A Coach of the Year plaque will be awarded.

F. Coach & Player of the Year Tiebreaker Procedures - Following repeated open-cast votes to break a tie we will move to a tiebreaker process in the following order:

1) Nominee from the conference champion (final standings)
2) Nominee from head to head winner in conference matches/events
3) Sophomore nominee over a freshman (Player of the Year Only)*
4) Paper blind vote of coaches
5) Flip of coin

*For Coach of Year Tiebreaker #3 does not apply.

VI. Ending Date
